The Minnesota Timberwolves tip off with the New Orleans Pelicans in NBA Cup action Friday evening at 7:00 pm, and Jaylen Clark made it clear that the team is ready to seize the moment.
Ahead of the matchup with the Pelicans, Clark said, "We wanna win this Cup. We've never won our Group, and I feel like this is one of our best chances." The quote came via Wolves Radio's Alan Horton.
Of course, the history backs Clark up. In the three years of the tournament’s existence, Minnesota has never advanced past group play in the tournament. This year, the Wolves are in West Group B with the Thunder, Pelicans, Clippers and Grizzlies, and they opened group play with a 127-101 win over the Clippers on Oct. 30. After tonight, they still have the Thunder on Nov. 25 and the Grizzlies on Nov. 27.
Minnesota comes in with a 6-3 record overall following Wednesday's 117-107 win in Houston, where LaMelo Ball scored 20, and Jonathan Kuminga sparked a big fourth-quarter run. The Pelicans are 4-4. Anthony Edwards remains out following his knee procedure, and Terrence Shannon Jr. is listed as day-to-day with a hip issue.
Pregame coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. CT on WCCO Radio, with tip shortly after 7:00 pm. The game is also on DAZN.
