  • PLAYER PROFILE: Michael Deiter, G, Wisconsin

    Guest Sam Ekstrom

Though not a great tester or analytical prospect, Michael Deiter brings Big Ten toughness to the table after 54 straight starts at Wisconsin. Deiter cycled between left guard, left tackle and center for the Badgers, concluding as a left guard his senior season. Earned first- and second-team All-American honors on various publications. Dieter set career lows in quarterback hits and hurries permitted last season, though he was the most penalty prone with seven flags against.

His combine was middle of the road, but he offers size, experience and maturity at a position where many teams are craving depth.

    What the analysts say

“Durable, capable guard/center prospect who knows how to play the game but might lack the athletic elements needed to become a full-time starter on the next level. Dieter's experience in a variety of pro-style rushing schemes and his overall technique work are in his favor while his experience across the line offer flexibility that could lock him into an NFL roster as an early backup with the potential to step in and start if needed.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

“Michael Deiter is a scheme diverse prospect who will bring a diverse set of tools to whichever NFL franchise drafts him. Deiter has excellent mobility and his play in space allows him to be a lead blocker on boundary plays and screens. Deiter has the needed anchor and mass to hold his ground in one on one situations and has the lateral mobility to be an effective interior pass protector, despite a lack of length to consistently land strikes first against defenders.” – Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network
