Arguably the most talked-about player in this draft – as athletic or undersized quarterbacks usually seem to be – Kyler Murray, 21, will likely be some team’s pick as a future franchise quarterback. Won the Heisman Trophy and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honor in his single season as a full-time starter at Oklahoma, three years after transferring from Texas A&M, where he began his career. Passed for over 4,300 yards last year and rushed for 1,000 more. Responsible for 54 touchdowns between his arm (42) and legs (12) in 2018.

Chose football over baseball after being a former Oakland Athletics draft pick. Lost some fans when he poorly handled a Dan Patrick interview about his choice and was reportedly a difficult interview in team meetings at the NFL Combine (where he didn’t do drills). Ultimately, though, his talent will earn him a shot to be a star, regardless of his size or on-camera persona.

    What the analysts say

“Severely undersized, one-year starter with rare playmaking talent that could force general managers to reassess long-held notions about size and style for a franchise quarterback. Murray is like a complex burgundy with notes of Baker Mayfield, Johnny Manziel and Russell Wilson in his play, but like any quarterback, he'll need to prove he can recognize disguised coverages and work on-time from the pocket to go from flash talent to playoff winner.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

“Right now Murray is a raw talent with elite athleticism and a nice arm, but playing quarterback takes a lot more than that. His burst and movement skills are jaw-dropping and will save him for awhile, but eventually he will need to develop the nuances of his game and perfect his mechanics, which will require a quarterback that is truly bought in to his growth and developmental as a football player.” – Jon Ledyard, The Draft Network
