Once a 225-pound quarterback in high school, David Edwards beefed up and turned into a three-year, All-Big Ten right tackle for the Badgers, playing with fellow draft prospect Michael Deiter. Edwards still possesses some of the skills that made him a mobile high school quarterback, which is appealing to have at a tackle spot, but he didn’t conclude his junior season very well analytically at Wisconsin, making some wonder why he didn’t return for his senior season.

Edwards allowed 18 hurries last year – more than double the previous two seasons, was one of the lowest-graded pass-blockers in college football and didn’t test well at the combine.

    What the analysts say

“Quarterback-turned-tight-end-turned-right-tackle who has maintained his light feet but is missing functional strength and body control to hold his ground against NFL power. Edwards isn't the technician we've come to expect from the Wisconsin program and he'll need additional technique work to help make up for some of his physical deficiencies. He's still a pup as an offensive lineman and he should improve with more experience and weight room work, but it's tough to project him behind average backup to low-end starter at this point.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

“David Edwards is a promising Right Tackle prospect for the NFL. His skills as a run blocker and functional athleticism provide the necessary foundation for him to be a starter in the NFL. But Edwards, still new to the offensive line (he entered Wisconsin as a TE), needs development in the pass game. Edwards' pass set is filled with false steps, a poor drive catch and some poor hand timing to negate up-field rushes. Edwards will experience growing pains if forced into action early.” --  Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network

    What PFF says

    -64th in run-blocking success

-Allowed career high in QB hurries in final season
