A converted tight end, Chase Winovich found his niche on Michigan’s defensive line. With 18.5 sacks over the last three seasons, Winovich earned third-team All-American honors as a fifth-year senior, playing opposite another Michigan D-line prospect in Rashan Gary. He’ll be 24 years old at draft time, which may be a deterrent for some teams, but his run-stopping prowess in college (second-best in the class) should be enough to turn heads. Winovich was a unique tester at the Combine with tremendous speed measurables and poor explosive results. Could become a linebacker at the next level and has interest from 4-3 and 3-4 teams.

    What the analysts say

“Chase Winovich is a great example of an overachiever, he is a highly polished defender who illustrates a great understanding of the game and how to defeat blocks. With that said, Winovich does have some natural athletic restrictions (lateral mobility, flexibility, length) that will limit his ceiling at the next level. Winovich can be a productive starter at the NFL level and his technical prowess should allow him to get reps early on in his NFL career.” – Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network

“Physical edge defender who plays the game like he has zombie blood pumping through his veins. Winovich is relentless, determined and takes no plays off, but his lack of physical traits and explosiveness as a rusher could limit his upside. Scheme fit could determine his role as 4-3 defensive end or 3-4 rush linebacker, but his football character and physicality improve his odds for success as an eventual starter.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com
