A two-player tier seems to have formed: Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid. Prior to the season, there was more ambiguity. With DeMarcus Cousins in tow, Anthony Davis was trending away from the center position — where he won All-NBA First Team ho...25712Fri, 02 Mar 2018 13:27:31 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/moore-the-role-of-jeff-teague-and-the-fading-glimmer-of-tyus-jones-r25708/I once attended a summer basketball camp run by a wildly successful high school basketball coach. Each morning, before the drills would start, the coach would give a brief lecture of sorts. Topics breached the normal platitudes: Teamwork, effort, etc.. One morning, the topic was scouting. Through his first three years in the NBA, Wiggins was relied upon to be the team’s primary and/or secondary scoring option, which led to a mixed bag of results. He came into the league with supreme athleticism, good-looking form o...25698Fri, 23 Feb 2018 13:09:21 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/faklis-how-the-timberwolves-can-finish-the-season-on-a-good-note-r25697/Historically, the All-Star game has served as a good point of reflection. The Timberwolves needed a chance for that. The game hasn’t been the true halfway point of the regular season in years – the Wolves have already played 61 games this year and generally play well over 50 games before a break-...25697Thu, 22 Feb 2018 07:45:27 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/zone-coverage-roundtable-coming-out-of-the-all-star-break-with-the-wolves-r25696/Hi friends. We’re back for another Zone Coverage roundtable. I’m Brandon Warne and as always will be the moderator. The Minnesota Timberwolves have already exceeded last year’s win total and appear primed to get back into the postseason for the first time since the first Kevin Garnett era. Let’s...25696Tue, 20 Feb 2018 14:49:40 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/the-two-paths-of-jimmy-butlers-next-maximum-contract-r25695/Forty-three players in the NBA are making more than the $19.3 million that 28-year-old Jimmy Butler will be paid this season. His deal increases by 6 percent next season, but even at a tick above $20 million, Butler will only be paid as a good player. Butler is not a good player; he is one of the...25695Wed, 21 Feb 2018 10:41:53 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/gorgui-dieng-the-overpaid-undervalued-backup-center-r25691/Gorgui Dieng is a backup center. For the 2017-18 season, the Wolves’ fifth-year big man is averaging 17.5 minutes per game. Two hundred eighty-two of those minutes have come alongside Karl-Anthony Towns, but largely Dieng’s role is reserved to playing when Towns doesn’t. They’ve already passed their win total from last season, are tied for third in the Western Conference and are on pace to win 48 games at season’s end. Draped in lime green Sharpie costumes, the Wolves cratered 108 points to a Devin Booker-less Suns team in a losing effort. Even when the Timberwolves are winning – as they have been the entire year – Thibodeau’s “always coaching” mindset generally has him obsessing over the things that went wrong. The things that went right, generally speaking, can be seen...25624Fri, 12 Jan 2018 08:00:00 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/naylor-timberwolves-enter-uncharted-waters-with-jeff-teague-and-tyus-jones-r25622/The Minnesota Timberwolves signed Jeff Teague this offseason to be their new starting point guard after the departure of Ricky Rubio. Beyond that, there are many bad losses and few signature wins mixed in there, and now the Wolves face the crucible of their schedule. They played Cleve...25618Tue, 09 Jan 2018 09:10:30 +0000
