Disagree? Let’s consult some data: At their current, KAT-less capacity, Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight Elo ranking system rates the Timberwolves as the worst team in the NBA,...26224Thu, 21 Jan 2021 06:30:22 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/whats-going-on-with-ricky-rubio-r26223/Many Minnesota Timberwolves fans, myself included, were full of hope for this season. After such a long layoff from Wolves basketball, how could we not be? We were going to get the opportunity to see Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell play together, Anthony Edwards was stealing our hearts, an...26223Wed, 20 Jan 2021 06:30:48 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/what-if-the-wolves-had-taken-coby-white-or-cam-johnson-over-jarrett-culver-r26221/Y’all remember 2019? Back when you could go to a bar, to work or even an NBA game? Those were the days. I’m headed back to the 2019 draft to examine how the Wolves draft night trade affected the team. The Minnesota Timberwolves traded Dario Saric and the No. 11 pick to the Phoenix Suns for the No...26221Fri, 15 Jan 2021 12:00:57 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/lets-play-the-blame-game-r26220/The Minnesota Timberwolves looked the best they’ve looked in two years for three quarters last night against The Memphis Grizzlies! Then the fourth quarter happened. The Wolves were outscored 24-4 at one point and 38-17 for the quarter. They lost the lead with the reserves, and couldn’t find the...26220Thu, 14 Jan 2021 10:00:38 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/the-sequence-that-sums-up-the-start-to-anthony-edwards-career-r26219/On Saturday night, a play unfolded that was a microcosm of Anthony Edwards’ first 10 NBA games and, I would argue, his time at Georgia as well. With 15 seconds left and down three points, Edwards had a great contest on a DeMar DeRozan jumper, placing his hand about two inches or so above DeRozan’...26219Wed, 13 Jan 2021 15:00:25 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/defense-was-on-display-against-san-antonio-r26217/The Minnesota Timberwolves got a boost in Game 1 when Karl-Anthony Towns returned from a six-game absence with a dislocated wrist injury to play a team-high 37 minutes. He’d finish with 25 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks in the 125-122 overtime loss — not too bad for a guy who’s been on ice for s...26217Mon, 11 Jan 2021 12:00:13 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/okay-now-its-time-to-panic-r26216/Nothing replaces Karl-Anthony Towns. The Minnesota Timberwolves have been competitive for a combined nine quarters during this six-game losing streak. Without Karl, this is possibly not even the best G-League team. I may be in the minority, but in my opinion, Jarrett Culver is a somewhat effectiv...26216Fri, 08 Jan 2021 10:30:56 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/how-are-the-wolves-this-bad-without-kat-r26215/In case you have not noticed, the Minnesota Timberwolves are bad right now. By Synergy’s Points Per Possessions metrics, they have the 5th worst offense and the worst defense in the entire NBA. Using NBA.com’s Team Ratings, which factor in the effects of rebounding, they have the 8th-worst offens...26215Thu, 07 Jan 2021 20:00:05 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/the-dangelo-russell-trade-doesnt-look-great-right-now-r26214/Shortly before the calendar flipped from 2020 to 2021 I found myself in the middle of a frozen lake in northern Minnesota. I was surrounded by a group of friends, some from college, some from as far back as high school. We were deep into a bottle of champagne and even deeper in a frenzy of nostalg...26214Wed, 06 Jan 2021 06:30:08 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/jarrett-culver-is-still-on-the-rise-r26212/Jarrett Culver has come a long way in five years. From an unheralded, two-star, unranked recruit with only a handful of mid-major offers, to a full ride to Texas Tech, an NCAA championship game appearance, being selected 6th overall in the NBA draft, to bombing as a rookie and having his name tos...26212Wed, 30 Dec 2020 16:30:55 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/3-options-to-fill-the-wolves-big-man-void-r26210/This weekend was tough. Karl-Anthony Towns is hurt. Josh Okogie is hurt. And the Minnesota Timberwolves were blown out by the Los Angeles Lakers in a 127-91 loss on Sunday night. Talk about kicking a horse (wolf?) when it’s down. Now that the starting center and starting power forward (yes, Okogie...26210Tue, 29 Dec 2020 06:30:11 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/the-wolves-are-no-longer-a-one-man-team-r26207/I watched Karl-Anthony Towns‘ post-game interview last night and I came away absolutely amazed by his ability to perform under the most difficult circumstances. The Minnesota Timberwolves opened their 2020-21 season with a win over the Blake Griffin-led Detroit Pistons. The game was far from a mas...26207Thu, 24 Dec 2020 15:00:00 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/a-pirates-guide-to-this-years-timberwolves-r26205/Ahoy, me hearties! Come one, come all, and gather ‘round ye quartermaster, Spencer Nelson, for the present year’s Minnesota Timberwolves season preview. As keepin’ with ye’s ol’ honorable traditions of yore, yer quartermaster has chosen this year’s theme to be the most treacherous, crusty, and uns...26205Wed, 23 Dec 2020 15:00:46 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/dr-chelangas-guide-to-a-realistic-timberwolves-season-outlook-r26204/Welcome back to another armchair therapy session with your favorite non-doctor, Dr. Chelanga (that’s me). The Minnesota Timberwolves season starts on Wednesday, and I think it’s important we process some things before opening night so that we can all head into the season with a good perspective an...26204Tue, 22 Dec 2020 15:00:57 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/waiving-hollis-jefferson-shows-the-wolves-arent-ready-for-positionless-basketball-r26202/So they did the most predictable thing. Once again, the Minnesota Timberwolves broke my heart. They cut the king for which I chose to simp on this roster: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. I apologize for leading anyone astray. Complaints in my DMs will receive DBNR responses from my intern within 48 hours...26202Tue, 22 Dec 2020 06:30:49 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/who-gets-the-minutes-projecting-the-timberwolves-2020-21-rotation-r26199/After two dismal performances, Minnesota Timberwolves fans have been left in a state of anxiety trying to decide if Jake Layman can be the starting power forward on the 10th seed in the Western Conference. I mentioned last week that I liked Rondae Hollis-Jefferson to finish games for the Wolves wi...26199Thu, 17 Dec 2020 11:30:30 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/jake-layman-is-more-of-a-glue-guy-than-a-floor-spacer-r26198/Jake Layman has become a bit of a legend in his short time in Minneapolis. And I don’t mean “legend,” in a Kevin Garnett sort of way, or in the way that people introduce the dumbest person they went to high school with, I mean legend in the sense that his effect on the 2019-20 Minnesota Timberwol...26198Wed, 16 Dec 2020 11:00:48 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/espn-is-wrong-about-dangelo-russells-ranking-r26197/ESPN released their three installments (ESPN+ required) in their annual list of the top 100 players in the NBA, and the results have been, well, mixed. Before I tear ESPN’s 69th slot placement of the D’Angelo Russell apart, there are two things that I should point out. Considering how subjectiv...26197Fri, 11 Dec 2020 06:30:51 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/josh-okogie-should-not-be-playing-power-forward-r26196/Each year before the season, the media covering the Minnesota Timberwolves pushes something that will never happen. Last year, it was Andrew Wiggins ruining the point — sorry, *running* the point. The year before that, it was that we could still fix things with Jimmy Butler. Remember in 2017 when...26196Thu, 10 Dec 2020 11:00:01 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/how-does-josh-okogie-fit-into-the-rotation-r26195/This afternoon, I found myself alone in my room watching the FIBA Basketball U19 African Championship game. Watching that game, one thing stood out: I need the NBA to come back. We’re just a few days away from the Minnesota Timberwolves’ first regular game and there are still many questions surrou...26195Mon, 14 Dec 2020 06:30:52 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/leandro-bolmaros-passive-mindset-holds-him-back-r26193/When the Minnesota Timberwolves flipped the 25th pick and a future 2nd rounder to the New York Knicks in order to move up two slots and select Leandro Bolmaro at No. 23, I was, well, thrown a little bit for a loop. First, because it was yet another trade in a night where all the 2020 draft assets...26193Thu, 03 Dec 2020 12:00:34 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/a-case-for-the-timberwolves-to-make-the-playoffs-this-year-r26192/Free agency is coming to a close and as the dust settles, one question remains: Will the Minnesota Timberwolves make the playoffs this year? With the new play-in tournament format the NBA is introducing this year, the Wolves only need to be the 10th seed in the Western Conference to have a chance...26192Mon, 30 Nov 2020 13:00:18 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/when-player-comparisons-go-wrong-r26191/Here’s a hot take: ANTHONY EDWARDS IS NOT ANDREW WIGGINS! There, I said it. It feels good to finally get that off of my chest. We’ve all heard it, at nauseum, throughout the entire draft process about the alarming similarities between the two players. Two quick questions: Why do we even compare p...26191Mon, 30 Nov 2020 06:30:09 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/the-robert-covington-trade-doesnt-look-great-in-hindsight-r26189/It was the move that precipitated “The Move.” While the Andrew Wiggins trade for D’Angelo Russell is going to be remembered as the biggest swap from this post-Jimmy Butler period of the KAT era, the Robert Covington trade reshaped much of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ supporting cast in a four-team...26189Wed, 25 Nov 2020 10:00:16 +0000https://wolvesdaily.com/news-rumors/timberwolves-features/exactly-how-far-will-karl-anthony-towns-lead-a-team-r26188/Five years ago on Oct. 25, the Timberwolves lost arguably the most important person in the brief history of their franchise. Twenty years before that, in 1995, Flip Saunders was hired by former Gophers teammate Kevin McHale to serve as general manager and, soon after that, coach. He made his first...26188Fri, 27 Nov 2020 06:30:54 +0000
