    Degenerates

MLB Atlanta Braves/Colorado Rockies Over 13.5 (-110; Odds via Caesars): 7:40 PM CT on SportsNet RM

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a Coors Field total open this high and still take money to the over. But that’s what’s going on here and I tend to agree that runs will pour in tonight. First of all, the weather conditions can’t get much more ideal with warm temperatures and a solid wind blowing out to dead center. That should help the best offense in baseball and a sneaky-solid lineup mash lower-tier pitching.

The last time Kyle Freeland saw the Braves he gave up 7 runs before being pulled in the 5th inning, and Atlanta didn’t even put one over the fence. That’s likely to change tonight with the conditions at Coors, and should lead to a big night at the plate for the visitors. But Atlanta is also rolling out a starter tonight with exactly zero big-league experience. Darius Vines might have a rough welcome to the majors against a Rockies team that’s solid offensively both at home and against righties. This game has all the potential it needs for clearing such a high total, and I think the teams execute enough to get there.

Bonus Bet: Charlie Blackmon Over 0.5 RBI (+125; Odds via DraftKings)

The Colorado designated hitter has been fairly quiet from a power and RBI standpoint since returning from the injured list this month. But the overall numbers of a .400 average and 1.120 OPS since his return suggest he’s primed to break out, and this could be a great situation if the kind of game I expect unfolds. Whether it’s a non-stop hit parade that puts runners on when he’s up, or he welcomes a rookie pitcher with a lead-off homer, Blackmon should drive someone in tonight at this attractive price.

Every day he will offer his Locks and Degenerate picks. Locks are the games he’s confident in. Degenerates are entertaining but riskier picks.
