MLB (0.5 Unit) St. Louis Cardinals -1.5 @ Chicago Cubs (+100): 7:05 PM CT on Marquee
The last time the Cardinals faced a left-handed starter, I highlighted their strength against southpaw pitching, and they went on to score 16 runs that game. They get to see another lefty starter in Drew Smyly tonight, and I’m expecting more big things.
St. Louis has been hitting left-handers so hard this month they’ve climbed into the top-5 for most hitting stats and now lead MLB in OPS against lefties. Smyly is not a pitcher I’m afraid of, and neither should the Cards, as he has padded his stats against some of the worst teams in baseball this month.
It’s also important to note just how big of an acquisition Jordan Montgomery has been for St. Louis. He’s allowed only 1 total run in his 3 starts as a Cardinal and also dominated the Cubs earlier this season when he was still with the New York Yankees.
You’re getting a Cardinals team here that has the 2nd-best run line cover percentage and margin of victory in baseball, plus 15 of their 19 wins post-All-Star break have been by multiple runs. So at an even-money price, this looks like a great spot for them to keep their hot streak rolling.
