MLB (0.5 Unit) San Diego Padres/SF Giants Over 8 (-110; Odds via Caesars): 8:45 PM CT on NBCS-BA

This is a bullpen game by San Francisco, which means we could see any number of pitchers beyond Ryan Walker who will open for them. Hopefully it means they give some work to Sean Manaea, but you just can’t count on that for the handicap of this game. What you can count on is Yu Darvish going for San Diego, which has not worked out as they planned in most instances this season.

Darvish is having his biggest troubles on the road this year, posting a 6.19 ERA while those games have gone 4-1-1 over this total. He also has issues with the Giants lineup which has a cumulative .296 average and .955 OPS against him. San Francisco keeps coming up with clutch hitting during this 9-game winning streak and there’s still a big wind blowing out at Oracle Park, so I think this number is too low.

    Degenerates

MLB Texas Rangers @ Chicago White Sox ML (-110; Odds via Caesars): 7:10 PM CT on NBCS-CHI

The White Sox woke their bats up last night against a right-handed starter, and should continue that tonight against a lefty. It’s been years of watching Chicago excel against left-handed pitching and the drastic split still exists. I think they tear into Martin Perez today who has allowed a career .423 average and 1.022 OPS to the White Sox lineup.

Perez is also having a terrible time on the road this year with a 6.50 ERA and .330 on-base average allowed. Heading to Guaranteed Rate Field where the Southsiders hit so much better will likely spell trouble for him again. Sox starter Michael Kopech’s up and down season appears to be stabilizing with a 1.65 ERA this month, so with run support I think he holds down the Rangers enough for Chicago to grab the win here.

PGA Tour (Odds via DraftKings): Thursday-Sunday on Golf Channel and NBC

The Travelers Championship tees off this Thursday at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut, and our search is pretty simple. Who is going to be effective in the short game and on the greens?

This is one of the shortest courses on the tour at 6,800 yards. At first glance, you might be inclined to play the big hitters, knowing they can go for the green a little more aggressively.

Historically, however, shorter courses have served as an evening of the playing ground, allowing golfers who excel around and on the green to lead the way. The wedges will rule this week, and strokes gained tee to green is a key metric.
