NCAA Basketball (0.5 Unit) Western Illinois @ South Dakota St. -13 (-110): 7:00 PM CT on ESPN+
The Jackrabbit juggernaut keeps rolling through the Summit, and even though Western Illinois has been feisty, they should be in trouble here.
South Dakota State is 14-0 in conference games, winning those games by an average 15.7 point margin. Toss out the two games where they were missing perhaps their best player in Douglas Wilson, and that margin increases to 17.5 points, and 21.8 at home. That includes running Western Illinois off their own floor a month ago by 18, where the porous Leatherneck defense allowed SDSU to shoot 60.8% from the floor.
Western Illinois simply does not have the defense to contain the nation’s 3rd highest-rated offense. The Jackrabbits are rolling, this is a relatively short spread for them, and I’m willing to lay the points.
NCAA Basketball (0.5 Unit) Santa Clara -5 @ Loyola-Marymount (-110): 9:00 PM CT on WCC Network
We’ve definitively reached the time of the year in college basketball where you should not overthink betting against teams who have collapsed. Loyola-Marymount is sadly one of those teams, with their season turning fully ugly with 7 straight losses. The Lions are near rock bottom after a 10-point loss to Portland on Saturday night, and now have to face a Santa Clara team that is on a mission.
The Broncos need big wins, especially with a guaranteed loss up next at Gonzaga this weekend. They present a really tough matchup for LMU here, as their size should help them control this game against a roster with no significant height. Santa Clara is in the bubble discussion, but can’t afford any kind of slip-up against an opponent like this. Having already beat LMU by 19 just two weeks ago, I see the talented Broncos handing out another beating tonight.
