NBA (0.5 Unit) Miami Heat/Boston Celtics 1st Quarter Over 58.5 (-110): 6:30 PM CT on NBCS-Boston
After taking an ugly push on backing the Celtics in the first quarter when these teams met up on Wednesday, I’m looking to alter the approach here based on how they played. A total of 73 points being scored in that opening quarter is really nothing unexpected with these squads, especially from Boston’s standpoint. The Celtics have averaged 37.6 points in the first quarter of the five games in this home stand, no big surprise for the team scoring the second-most points in first quarters this season.
But Miami also showed why they’re 8th in first-quarter scoring this season at 29.9 points on average. There was a frenetic pace in the start of that game, driven by the efficiency of Boston’s offense. That’s an outlier for two teams in the bottom half of the league for tempo, but it’s been a common theme for both to start games. With Jimmy Butler expected back tonight for Miami to add some additional scoring punch, I’m expecting these teams to go up and down the floor early in this one and rack up the points once again.
