A little after 10:00 am on Saturday, TMZ reported that Minnesota Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson and two high school teammates had died in a three-car crash. Jackson, Isaiah Hazel, and A.J. Lytton Jr. were driving a Dodge Charger in Upper Marlboro, Md., at 3:00 am when an Infiniti Q50 struck them at a high rate of speed while changing lanes.
The collision sent the Charger off the road, where it hit multiple tree stumps before stopping. The second car then hit a Chevrolet Impala. Neither the Impala's driver nor the two passengers in the Q50 were hurt.
ESPN's Kevin Seifert has further details:
Mark and Zygi Wilf offered their condolences on Jackson's passing:
Kevin O'Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah expressed that they were heartbroken:
Jackson's teammates grieved his loss:
The Vikings drafted Jackson after an improbable rise to the NFL. He had quit football and worked at a Harris Teeter grocery store and Chipotle before playing at Alabama and Oregon. Investigators said alcohol may have contributed to the crash. Charges are pending.
