  • Thorpe, Kirilloff to Represent Twins at Futures Game

    Guest Brandon Warne

The 2018 SiriusXM MLB Futures Game will take place on Sunday, July 15 at 3 p.m. at Nationals Park in Washington D.C., and will be televised on MLB Network.

This time around, the Twins will have two representatives. Outfielder Alex Kirilloff will play on the USA team, while left-handed pitcher Lewis Thorpe will play on the World squad.

After missing all last season due to injury, Kirilloff has picked up right where he left off by hitting .332/.383/.577 across 79 games between Low-A Cedar Rapids and High-A Fort Myers. Kirilloff was promoted in late June, and has played mostly right field this season. In 14 games with Fort Myers, he's hitting a respectable .328/.344/.448 while being 2.5 years younger than his average Florida State League counterpart.

Kirilloff was the team's first-round pick (No. 16) in the 2016 draft.

Thorpe, who is still only 22 despite missing all of 2015-16, is having a terrific season at Double-A Chattanooga. Through 16 appearances (15 starts), Thorpe has a 4.04 ERA (3.78 FIP) with 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings and 2.8 BB/9.

Thorpe signed with the Twins for $500,000 in July 2012, and is presently on the 40-man roster.
