The Minnesota Vikings have announced that they've signed a three-year deal worth $84 million with quarterback Kirk Cousins, formerly of the Washington Redskins.
The deal, according to Albert Breer of the MMQB, has a no-trade and no-transition tag clause in it and backloads the cap hits into the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
Because the cap hit of the signing bonus is spread out over three seasons, that means the Vikings only incur a $24 million hit in 2018, which gives them a little bit of wiggle room to pursue other deals, including going after defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, who the Vikings are currently hosting on a free agency visit.
With something like $26 million left in cap space, the Vikings will preserve some of it for their draft picks and save the rest for breathing room, free agents and extensions of players currently on the roster.
