  • Pat Shurmur Officially Named Giants Coach; Three Vikings Added to Pro Bowl

    Guest Sam Ekstrom

It's official: The Minnesota Vikings are searching for a new offensive coordinator, and the New York Giants have their new head coach.

Pat Shurmur was officially named Ben McAdoo's successor in New York on Monday, one day after the Vikings were eliminated from the playoffs.

Shurmur, who spent just 25 regular season games as the Vikings offensive coordinator, made a name for himself with the way he squeezed the most out of an offense powered by backup quarterback Case Keenum, backup running backs Jerick McKinnon and Latavius Murray and a retooled offensive line.

"I want to thank John Mara and Steve Tisch for giving me the opportunity to be the head coach of the New York Giants,” said Shurmur in a statement. "I am looking forward to getting to work with Dave Gettleman and Kevin Abrams and starting the process to once again build a championship team. I have been fortunate to work with many great coaches and players, and I am thankful for those relationships. I would like to thank my family and friends for their tremendous support."

The 52-year-old now joins a tough New York media market in a competitive division that includes the Eagles, Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys. The Giants finished 3-13 last season.

Meanwhile, the Vikings will look for their third new Week 1 offensive coordinator in the last three seasons.

    Pro Bowl additions

Kyle Rudolph, Linval Joseph and Harrison Smith were added to the Pro Bowl roster Monday, giving the team seven Pro Bowlers, although Anthony Barr will reportedly drop out due to an injury suffered in Sunday's game.

Rudolph, a former Pro Bowl MVP, replaces the injured Jimmy Graham. Joseph replaces Fletcher Cox, who will be preparing for the Super Bowl. Smith fills in for the injured Landon Collins.

The game will be played Jan. 27, 2018 in Orlando.
