It is Week 4 of the NFL season and the fifth week of the college football season: Time to find a great line and put down some money on - what hopefully turns out to be - winning teams.
My Bets
Taking the Buffalo Bills plus-8 against the Atlanta Falcons: This is a risky one, I won't lie. Both these teams have been some of the few that have a well-defined identity this season. The Bills put a lot of pressure on their cornerbacks to step up and make plays, setting them on an island. They have responded with 26 batted passes as a defense, which is second in the league. The Falcons may seem to have the upper hand on defense, giving up only 86 yards per game and facing a Bills team dependent on the ground game. But they played two teams with poor rushing attacks -- Detroit and Green Bay -- and gave up 125 yards against the Bears in Week 1. This is going to be another four-point game for the Falcons.
Taking the Virginia Tech Hokies plus-7.5 against the Clemson Tigers: I believe in Hokies quarterback Josh Jackson and his ability to keep this a one-score game. He has amassed 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns with only one interception. While the Clemson defense has been impressive -- only letting up 9.3 points per game -- the bet is that Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant cannot score enough points to stay significantly ahead of the Hokies. This is also the best offense they have played this season, with an actual offensive line to protect and a balanced offense that averages 507.3 per game will be a hefty load for the Tigers defense. This game is going to be tight.
Betting on the Washington State Cougars upset vs. the USC Trojans: Taking the Cougars money line is a plus-150 bet, but I am assuming you need convincing. The rage headed into this season was USC quarterback Sam Darnold; however, Cougars quarterback Luke Falk has been the one putting up stats. He has 1,378 yards and 14 touchdowns with only one pick, compared to Darnold's 1,225 yards and nine touchdowns with a discouraging seven interceptions. USC gives up 24.8 points per game and is now up against an offense that racks up 43.8 points per game. At home, against the No. 5 ranked team, the Cougars pull the upset.
Bets I Like
Kareem Hunt Rookie of the Year: Put all of your money on him if you buy into Kansas City being good. He leads the league in rushing yards with 401, the next closest being Dalvin Cook at 288 yards. He is in an offense that wants to run the ball and he is proving to be the surprise rookie back leading the way with his explosive running style and nose for the end zone. Throw money while the bet still pays out at minus-200.
