Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has bought out the final year of forward Thomas Vanek’s contract.
“In order to give our team more salary cap flexibility we needed to make this difficult decision,” said Fletcher. “We thank Thomas for his time with the Minnesota Wild and wish him the best going forward.”
Vanek becomes an unrestricted free agent, eligible to sign with any team in the NHL, except Minnesota. He collected 93 points (39-54=93) in 154 regular season games with the Wild and tallied four assists in 10 playoff contests. He was signed as a free agent by Minnesota on July 1, 2014.
