According to ESPN, the Star Tribune and other sources, the Minnesota Vikings have signed safety Harrison Smith to a five-year, $51.25 million contract extension.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Smith had a $10 million signing bonus and his deal includes $28.578 million guaranteed against injury. His contract will run through 2021.

The deal makes Smith the NFL's highest-paid safety, according to OverTheCap.com. Smith was selected No. 29 overall out of Notre Dame in the 2012 NFL Draft, made his first Pro Bowl last year, and already holds the Vikings team record with four interception returns for touchdowns.
