  • Case Keenum Named NFC Offensive Player of the Month

    Guest Arif Hasan

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Case Keenum has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for November. In his three games this month, he's thrown for a passer rating of 114 — throwing for 8.9 yards per attempt with seven touchdowns, two interceptions and completing passes at a 71.1 percent clip.

Only one other quarterback with an undefeated record for the month showcased a superior passer rating and it was AFC quarterback Tom Brady.

Though NFC quarterbacks Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford put together better passing statistics than Keenum in November, the fact that Keenum and the Vikings beat both teams likely tipped the scales in his favor.

According to the Vikings, this is the fourth time the Player of the Month awards have gone back to back with last month's NFC Defensive Player of the Month Everson Griffen pairing with Case Keenum as the first duo since 1999 (Cris Carter and John Randle).

The most recent NFC Offensive Player of the Month awards for the Vikings have gone to Adrian Peterson, winning one for November 2015 and another for December 2012.

He's like TJ Yates, Brian Hoyer or Nick Foles...

Or Gus Frerrotte or Brad Johnson or Todd Bouman or any number of career backups that half the Vikings fan base falls in love with thinking they're the next Rich Gannon

Or Matt Schaub. Or Matt Flynn.

There's a reason Zimmer has said Keenum is only starting against the Falcons and saying it's "week to week" because he knows more football than the idiot fans that automatically assume Keenum is Kurt Warner because the media hyped up a good story.

Now can we get a real QB against the Panthers that has been battle tested for more than a few games of success? How about one that succeeded in a much worse offense under pressure 40% of the dropbacks that finished with a better accuracy rate under pressure than Drew Brees in Norv Turner's offense and let's get him ready to go against the Panthers next week rather than waiting until the playoffs until he gets up to speed against a playoff opponent... get him and the WRs and Shurmer and Teddy on the same page?

Or are we just letting teams figure out Keenum when one loss occurs and we're done forever?

We're just betting on the defense to bail us out with a 14-10 win or something?

Or we think Teddy will just roll out of bed at halftime down 14 and get us the win if needed?

I can see why the fans of lil' Teddy are getting nervous.

At this point, Keenum is on track to start the remaining 5 games of the regular season. The Bridgewater fans continuously craft bizarre scenarios about the purported plans to get lil' Teddy into the starting lineup. The latest was the "mini-break" scenario. The Vikings were surely going to take the 10 days between the Detroit game and the Atlanta game to make the switch from Keenum to Bridgewater. Well, apparently not.

I expect there to be a new Bridgewater scenario every week of this month, because the Bridgewater fans apparently have nothing else to do. (I can see why. They really are not Viking fans, and their hero is putting up zeros for the season.)

Once the regular season is over, I am sure that we will all get to listen to the "Zimmer will start Bridgewater now, because he is so special that Zimmer saved him for the playoffs" scenario.

The real fun begins after Keenum hoists the Lombardi. The Vikings will sign Keenum to a multi-year, $18 million per season contract. All the lil' Teddy fans will wail "What about our hero?" Here is your answer:
