Officially confirming what was long expected, the Minnesota Vikings announced their intention to part ways with Adrian Peterson and allow the free agent running back to "move on elsewhere," as general manager Rick Spielman told reporters via conference call Thursday.
The Vikings signed former Oakland running back Latavius Murray to supplant Peterson as the team's leading ball carrier, ending a decade-long run of Peterson wearing purple and terrorizing opposing defenses.
Peterson turns 32 years old on Tuesday and has reportedly not drawn much interest from other teams, at least at his current asking price.
Another recent Vikings free agent, Cordarrelle Patterson, who signed with the Raiders this week, took to Twitter late Thursday and pleaded with Peterson to come join him in the Bay Area, where they now have a hole at running back due to the departure of Murray.
