    Locks

MLB (0.5 Unit) Texas Rangers/Seattle Mariners Over 7.5 (-110; Odds via Caesars): 8:40 PM CT on RSN

The Mariners should be eager to take their new offense for a test drive, and I think it results in success tonight. After bringing Eugenio Suarez back to Seattle, the M’s have plenty of pop in their lineup now and should be able to beat up on Kumar Rocker in this spot. Rocker makes it easy whenever he’s on the road, posting a 9.91 ERA and 2.01 WHIP away from home.

Texas is a much better over team on the road as well, plus they’ll face George Kirby who is arguably the weakest of Seattle’s deep rotation with a 4.05 ERA at home. This low total is based on Seattle’s offense always leaving something to be desired, but the vibes will be high with them today and I think that makes the number a little too low.

    Degenerates

NFL Preseason Detroit Lions/LA Chargers Under 32.5 (-110; Odds via Caesars): 7:00 PM CT on NBC

I’m just happy to be able to make a football bet. We’re so close I can taste it – only 23 more days until my Cyclones kick off the college season and 35 days until my Cowboys kick off the NFL regular season. While it’s truly impossible to accurately handicap the Hall of Fame Game, I just can’t help but think this will be a snoozer.

Trey Lance will start for LA, which should tell you how poor the quarterback play will be when he exits, and Jim Harbaugh just wants to run the ball anyway. And the Lions have their first action without Ben Johnson calling plays, plus they just want to run the ball as well, so that offense shouldn’t supply many fireworks either. There have been some higher-scoring games recently in Canton, but this total is low for a reason and I think the preseason starts with a bland, boring game tonight.
