We came crashing down to earth last week, snapping a two-week winning streak, with the Giants saving us from a disaster. I’m backing a familiar team this week and going against one that took me down last week. Good thing I have a short memory.
Saints +4 ½ vs. Tampa Bay
At some point, I’ll stop believing in the Saints, but it won’t be this week as I go back to the well, hoping the third time is the charm. This divisional matchup tends to be closely played, and we know the Buccaneers always play tight games.
Baker Mayfield is far more profitable as a dog, and he won’t have most of his dogs in this matchup: no Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Bucky Irving. Add in that they’re back on the road on a short week, and this has ‘field goal game’ written all over it.
Commanders +12 ½ vs. Chiefs
Betting against the Chiefs last week was a mistake, but as I mentioned earlier, I have a short memory. This just feels like too many points, even though the Commanders will be without Jayden Daniels. Marcus Mariota won’t see ghosts stepping onto the field at Arrowhead – he’s beaten Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs.
Kansas City seems to be rounding into form and looks like the best team in the AFC right now. Still, with a date with the Bills looming, maybe they take their eyes off the prize just a bit. At the very least, a back door cover should be in play.
Steelers +3 vs. Packers
This one hurts a bit. The last thing I want to see is Aaron Rodgers celebrating a win over the Packers, but I think the Pack is stepping into a hornet’s nest on Sunday night. Pittsburgh has had ten days to think about a terrible performance in Cincinnati, particularly on defense.
Mike Tomlin shines in a bounce-back spot, and he’s always strong as a home underdog. Meanwhile, the Pack has been less than dominant against mediocre competition the last few weeks.
Jordan Love has been great on Sunday Night Football, with the highest QB rating ever for QBs with at least five starts. I think he’ll do all he can, but I don’t trust Green Bay’s defense to slow Rodgers, who will avoid the pass rush by getting rid of the ball quickly, and will lean on his two tight ends all night.
The Packers haven’t won a game in Pittsburgh since 1970, and unfortunately, I think the streak marches on.
Last Week: 1-2
Season: 8-13
