The good news for the Green Bay Packers entering its offseason is that most of their starters remain under contract through at least next season.
Still, among the 11 free agents the Packers will have to make decisions on, there is one key one. That's center Josh Myers. According to CBS Sports' Pete Prisco of CBS Sports, Myers could be a highly-coveted name.
Prisco released his top 100 free agents piece, and Myers landed at No. 26. Not only that, Myers was Prisco's second-ranked center.
Myers is coming off a strong year in a season that started with questions about his lack of consistency. Aside from his rookie season, the Ohio State product has always been available. Myers has missed one game the last three seasons and avoided disaster after suffering what appeared to be a far worse injury than what the reality turned out to be against the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs.
Among all its free agents, Myers will receive the most attention from the outside looking in, perhaps even inside the building at 1265 Lombardi Ave.
Myers has often been the crutch for fans who want to voice displeasure whenever there's an issue with the offensive line. Much of that noise evaporated in 2024, with Myers playing arguably his best football to date.
The Packers will have the cap room to bring back Myers if they wish, and if Prisco's rankings are valid, it will likely take more than a one-year deal.
Matt LaFleur always talks about putting the best five on the offensive line, and the group has started to gel, with Myers anchoring the middle.
Brian Gutekunst didn't mince words when praising Myers in his
It sounds like a GM who would prefer to have this center back in the green and gold. Other teams that need a center could drive up the asking price for Gutekunst, given how Myers looked in 2024.
The Packers have other options if they don't bring back Myers. Elgton Jenkins, Jacob Monk, Sean Rhyan, and Zach Tom would top the list. Would the Packers really want to move Tom away from right tackle? Does moving Jenkins in from left guard make sense? Those are questions for the front office to tackle.
Myers will eventually receive a well-deserved payday. Prisco's list is just another example of how many in the league view Green Bay's center.
